https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubleshooting-hardware-devices-and-electronics-theory/troubleshooting-tvs-and-video-sourcesIt is surprising that a large lump of metal like a hard disc can ever get hot because the power supply to it is not great. You could help cooling by removing the drive and there would be room to cut cooling holes in the bottom of the case below where it fits.

Yes, I have been thinking of doing that but I have to keep the geckos out too. There is also a metal plate about 3cm X 3cm directly under the unit where the hard drive is located. I am not sure what purpose this serves : some sort of heat sink perhaps ?

There are plenty of freesat boxes, but only one freesat recorder that I can find.

Hi Duncan, there are three different Freesat models, and depending on which model you get, and your LNB, will allow how many TV programmes you can record while watching live TV, or not watching any live TV. Mine is the 500 GB one, and I can record two while watching one of them at the same time. A wide band LNB will give you more choice.

The box I have, gives me plenty of space to save and watch programmes many times, and it will only automatically delete the oldest programme first that has been saved, when the drive is full, if you programme it to record a new one. I believe the actual box’s all look the same, whichever one you get.

          Regards Nick.

I did mention earlier in the thread that I have a Panasonic freesat / blue ray / DVD player and recorder. It has two satellite co-axial connections and can record two programmes at once, but if you want to watch at the same time you have to choose one of the programmes that are being recorded. I’m not sure if you can record two and watch a blue ray or DVD simultaneously. It can record to the HDD from discs and also record to discs and also has HDMI and SD connections as well as USB.
