I have a vice on the Centec 2B mill but its crap, no point in beating about the bush as they say, anyway i need a new one, suggestions would be welcome, I think 4inch ish would be good I have seen some called Gloster on flea bay and it states that it puts a half pound of pressure downwards for every 1 pound of horizontal pressure any one used one are they any good or is there some thing else i should be looking at, don't want to be spending hundreds of pounds if it can be helped.

I recently was in need of a new milling vice, I ended up buying one from "Rotagrip" which I think is the same one you mention from "Gloster Tools".

I consider it's well worth the price.

I got the 5 inch one from gloster tooling for my mill, have to say I'm very happy with it. It's not perfect but it didn't cost a grand. There kurt clones and pretty good. The casting is pretty good tho the vice needs a little cleaning etc just to pretty it up.

Got mine from ArcEuro. Quality is good, price is good. What more can you ask for.

Several other threads on vices in the last 6 months to check out, though they tend to move towards discussing the thickness of the gold plate.

If your current vice swivels you might think about how often you use that and whether you could get the new one as plain but bigger/better for your budget.

got mine from RDG, unfortunately was very badly put together, you gets what you pays for.

I bought an abwood 4" vice from g and m tools late last year and i am very happy with it , its a properly made british vice so none of the usual problems associated with buying far eastern scrap metal.

Warco DH1 with three out of the four varieties of jaws available – excellent.

Agree with Niloch about the Warco DH1. Expensive, but a brilliant piece of kit.

I can also vouch for the Warco DH1, I have all of the jaw sets, It's a well made bit of kit and although pricey with all of the jaw sets, not expensive considering the build quality and effectiveness of the vice.

Thanks chaps lots to think about, Ian the vice you bought does it stop lifting when tightened like the advert says, that's the problem I have with mine although its a really cheap vice made more for a drilling machine I think so I expect that I just want to buy one that will work, looked at the Warco vice and think with the other jaws it would be out of my price range to be honest although it looks the dogs do da's and if finance would allow I would most probably buy one.

                            Alan.
