        Bazyle,
You are comparing apples to oranges.
One stand to place some models on doesn’t relate to what some have to move.

Take Chester as an example, on close of show whey wrap all their machines which are show mounted on skids, they then have to wait until space is available to [a] get a 42 tonner into position that’s not blocked by loads of vans and then [b] get access to a large fork truck carried on the artic to load the skid mounted machines.

The artic takes a full load in bulk loaded front to back, both sides and then has to be strapped down.

I’m sure they would be very gratefully if you could tell them how to do this is 20 minutes.
Please copy this to Warco as well as they have the same problem.

Does that imply that you can park your caravan there for the weeknd?

              JS,

I don’t think Bazyl was arguing the point. I think he was just making an observation, based on his experience.

                Bob,

BSMEE do put on a great show. I do think that you might be over guilding the lilly a little with reference to your comments about traders, and other shows bean counters ….All I would say is that traders more or less know where they stand with the other shows bean counters….but then, this is only my opinion….without going into details.

Regardless of my opinion, I still think that the BSMEE Exhibition is a great place to see exhibits.

Haha I know, that thing about calling Manchester ‘up north’ bugs the hell out of us. Its barely 50 miles north of Birmingham yet is hailed as the north of England. Its so politicians can scuttle up there and say they are thinking about us. They seem to have forgotten North Yorkshire and Durham and Northumberland and the Lakes.

                  Hi Wolfie,

It’s actually nearer 85 miles from Brum to Manchester and when I lived and worked in Durham visiting York was considered to be visiting ‘The South’. And Durham was thought to be near to the south coast when my son lived and worked in Dunblane. It’s all relative. To put it into perspective, Manchester is approx same latitude as Doncaster. (serious question follows – I’m interested) Do you consider Doncaster in the North or South?

In fact the difference in distance between you to London and Manchester to London is only about 30 miles .  By the way, I was born in my father’s family home town of Morecambe, about level with you, so I consider myself a ‘Northerner’ too, but I was mostly brought up in the middle of ‘The Black Country’ and have lived in the East Midlands for longer than I care to think about – no wonder I’m easily confused  .

                  Hope you received the books?

                  Best regards

Ha! We had this discussion elsewhere recently and yes you’re right its relative and it seems to depend on whether you see the country (that is England, not England and Scotland) as two parts, north and south, or three parts, north, south and Midlands.
I am in the three part camp which in my view puts Manchester and yes also Doncaster and Sheffield into the Midlands. However all three would be up north to a 2 part viewer. Durham and York aren’t that far apart, I use a motorcycle shop in Durham quite regularly.

                      HI Wolfie,

It’s about 80 miles from York to Durham (I used to meet my girlfriend from the South there for romantic weekends – ). Manchester is about 35 miles south of York (by Latitude). I still think of Scotland as part of the UK though.

It’s all relative! I live in S. Leicestershire quite near the M1 in a village with a couple of good pubs, and it’s often a stopping off point for ‘refreshments’ for folks from Yorkshire travelling down for footie or Rugby league matches. On one occasion one of our locals was deriding ‘Southern Jessies’ when a bunch of burly Rugby followers pointed out that he was one. He was most peeved.

However on another occasion a Leeds (Shipley actually) man was enjoying a pint but deriding the weak, flat southern beer compared with John Smiths. I hated to tell him that he was drinking Timothy Taylor’s ‘Landlord’ brewed in Keighley and that it was 4.3 abv compared to the JS at 3.8 – but someone had to.

                      Best regards

                          Hi Bazyle,
I have seen a large, single axle trailor used by a ME trader, that was filled with vertical dividers (plastic drainpipe?) to hold bars of metal stock. No packing, just hinge down the backboard/lid + go!
All beers under 5% = “maidswater”! Just fancy flavoured drinks.
                          John.
