I have been made aware of several clubs that have suspended live steam running or are considering cancelling or moving events due to the high risk of uncontrolled fires in the present drought.

I’m creating this thread as a place to put any announcements for closures or event changes.

Feel free to add posts letting people know of any precatuions you club has put in place, and also when the weather finally breaks can we use this thread to let people know when tracks re-open for running.

      Thank you

      Neil

Well, having placed such on the Tea Room a couple of days ago:

Weymouth & District Model Engineering Society.

This is within a secure school grounds so although we welcome visitors it needs be by prior arrangement anyway, and of course outside of school hours. The site is also used by sports-clubs so it’s not quite as hermetic as that seems.

Our reason for running suspension is that the ground-level track especially is fringed by hedges along neighbouring homes’ gardens, and a row of pine trees that cover the ground and track with dry needles.

Such suspension would obviously apply to boiler steam-accumulation tests, but should not stop cold examinations and hydraulic-only tests.

I would also suggest societies examine and if necessary suspend their own use of any angle-grinders and welding-sets outdoors.
