M24 x 2 arbour

can you get one with a MT2?

ive a large boring head that has an m24 x 2mm arbour thread, can you get this on a MT2 arbour or is it just to small for such a large thread or does m24 x 2 have a 'name'

Get yourself a blank end MT2 arbor and thread it in the lathe.

I did think about that but my spindle is mt4 and a reducer would not be so accurate

Carl, find an old used MT4 drill, 1" or bigger, cut it down and use that for the arbor, probably a good idea to thread for a drawbar for security in use.

Should be accurate enough for this job.

It does not matter even if the boring head does run a tad off true.The cutting tip will gtravel a perfect circle regardless.

Chronos and others sell a MT2 boring head arbor with a 1.5" thread that could be turned down to suit.

Most arbors seem to have an imperial thread. (Don't get it confused with the oft quoted drawbar thread of 10 or 12mm or half inch etc). Are you sure yours is 24mm and not 1" ?

All the boring head arbors I have seen are flanged after the thread, to stop the head screwing itself into the spindle. Finding a MT2 blank arbor of big enough diameter to accommodate this may prove challenging.

i have pondered on softening the arbour it came with and

a) turning a MT2

b) cut off existing taper and drill/tap for a more readily available MT2 arbour

the one from chronos looks promising tho

Depends how hard the original is too. You might be able to turn it down using carbide tooling?

Some of the cheapies may not even be hardened at all.
