Is there an easy way to make lots of scale model seats?

Hi

Im thinking of building a 1:72 Boeing 747SP cutaway model. The problem is that’s 185 seats.

Is there an easy way to make so many seats?

Do you have access to a 3D printer? That would seem one route.

Alternatively, are their shapes amenable to being pressings within range of some die-making and a fly- or arbor- press?

If I was building that I would make patterns of the various seat styles and setups, mould them in silicone and then cast in resin. You'll find all you need from Terranti's, supplier of the materials required.

It depends on how deep your pockets are and how open you are to new technologies !

My suggestion would be to use 3D SLA printing

With SLA printing it takes the same time to print a plate of lots of items as a single item.

I have had some good results using an Anycubic Photon , not as expensive as some models to buy [£100's rather than £1000's]

In former times such items could have been made by machining a strip of wood or other suitable material to a cross section to match the profile of the item; they would then be cut off to length and finished.

The animals in "Noah's Arks" were made in a similar way, the blank sometimes being turned to section in the lathe.
