Imperial supplies of mild steel

3/32" was a popular thickness of strip steel in various widths specified in articles in ME in the 60s and 70s.

Apart from round 3/32" none seems to be available now and the metric equivalent of 2.5mm does not seem to be listed either.

What does one do to get round this? Machine down from the next size up?

Unless some of the model engineering suppliers list it you'll need to cut from 2.5mm cold rolled sheet.

If we are talking bright strip, beware of cutting down the middle of say 3/32 * 3/4 to get 2 bits of 3/32*5/16, you will get 2 nicely curved bits. Been there, done that.

You can still buy "key steel" in imperial sizes, but it will be expensive.

I assume it is used for keys to fix gears to shafts, so may not come in the exact size you need.

Keysteel is normally a thou or two oversize so it can be filed/machined to fit the keyways.

Depending what you are doing with it and how deep your pockets are there is still quite a wide range of widths available in gauge plate
