      Hello All

I have a second boiler that came with the traction engine that is the same size as the one I am having tested, someone at the club seems to believe that this boiler was the first boiler attempted by the builder but was condemned, it was then that another member who was well known as a boiler maker made the current boiler as in the first pictures at the start of the post.

I enclose pictures of this boiler now to see if this is identifiable?IMG_1746IMG_1745IMG_1744IMG_1742IMG_1743

So this could be a bit embarrassing, I was looking for a book on traction engine design and construction by Edward George, I did not realise this author was the very same Edward George who was a member at our club and taught night classes for model engineering in Cambridge, it turns out that this traction engine made several ongoing appearances at the night class as did the person rebuilding it, Edward remembered the engine but he did ask me was there a second boiler that had been started but was abandoned because of the presence of soft solder, the very same boiler above, His understanding was that this traction engine was of Bassett Lowke design, he even said he thinks it had cast wheels which it does.  Providing the boiler passes the boiler test tomorrow I will then arrange to take this to him soon for identification.

The good news is that the boiler has passed its test this morning so we now have a boiler to work with.

          Kind Regards

          Roy
