I need to procure some 0.8mm glass for my model cab windows,any ideas who sells it?

Hi Deltic,

Dont know what size cab windows you are glazing, but one source of thin glass is microscope slides. Slides come in sizes up to about 4 inches square and are normally 0.9 mm although you can get thinner.

For exhibition loco, glass. For general club use, plenty of hard work, maybe with many different drivers, is glass the answer, or is some sort of plastic a good idea. Ian S C

I dont think you should build a loco out of just glass, you might have problems getting the boiler tested.

This subject has been going on for some years. Even had one chap ask me to send plastic samples never to be heard from again…
So moral is if it not spectacle glass forget it and try make your own,

One possible source of thin glass IS Transparency Holders. 35 mm ones will probably be too small, but the glasses from two and quarter square (6 x 6) ones – if you can find them should be large enough to cut to size. DON'T get Anti Newton Ring ones, they are not plain glass, but minutely marbled like bathroom window glass.

I have used (nominal) 1mm thick 'Memory Glass', which is available in a variety of sizes, including 2" x 2", for locomotive cab windows.

It is sold in craft shops, here is an example, and is easily cut using a glass-cutter.

I have just checked the thickness and mine measures 1.1mm – so I don't know how crucial your thickness parameter is……..
