That's the same product that goes inside the 'normal' magnetic scales. The 10mm profile of the 'normal' scale is a piece of extruded aluminium that this tape slots into for support.

Does it matter how they work as said junk without a clean.

One particular scale has just started initial symptoms, i'l have a closer look next time.
