        Clarification required. It appears to involve a chain driven cutter which is rather unusual.

          Yes you”re right Bazyl it does look a bit random.

          I’m making an epicyclic clock which requires an internal gear wheel. I ‘invented’ the cutter assembly in order to reach inside the wheel. I tried using a round belt but I couldn’t stop it slipping so I changed it to chain drive. It has taken quite a while! Here are a few more photos which might explain it better.

                          I take it the cutter holder is reciprocated by an eccentric – the chain drive simply placing the drill well clear of the work-piece?

                            Nigel, the cutter is  home made but yes, the chain drive is just to clear the work piece. There is a brass eccentric but that is just a tensioner.

                              Ah… Ooops! I don’t know how but had managed to mis-read the photos to interpret the tool as some sort of shaper rather than mill!

                              It’s certainly very impressive work.
