Im looking for some information on where to purchase an Eclipse No.244 flat tapping wrench. These seem to be very hard to find.
Does anyone know a retailer I could buy one or any equivalent I could purchase must be a flat one though.
These haven’t been made for decades but my example is my favourite tap wrench for smaller stuff. eBay or tool shows etc are your best bet. Some on eBay now!!
Here’s a photo of a couple I made some 60+ years ago — Eclipse were too expensive for a poor apprentice back then !!! They were made as functional tools and have been in use ever since, made from gauge plate
Does anyone know when they changed from the bright finish to the blackened one as shown in the ebay link? My 245 is bright although my larger one being cast just has a black finish but some of the smaller ones are also dark.
Eclipse 244 and 245 were available in the silver finish in 1978, I was given a £50 tool voucher (quite generous then) by my employer as a reward for finishing my apprenticeship and passing final exams (by some miracle) . These were among the items I selected. Still using most of the tools I got to this day, lost a couple to light fingered +1%&!!s over the years.
Bernard , So how about a book by George on Scale Model Traction Engine Building for more than £130 and a Myford turret attachment for more than £771 , both of which I was watching on eBay and which gave me sentiments similar to your own .
