calculation for nod on milling machine

Hello all

I've just got round to installing my new super major milling machine (I had it delivered last dec). A few small problems with it but I have got them all sorted apart from the nod. I've got +0.09mm on the inboard side and -0.08mm on the outside over a 100mm radius. The X axis is now bob on. Question is how do you calculate the size of the shims I need to put under the column? I know I will still have to measure it after but it would be better if I had a ball park figure to start with.

Assuming you have holes in the shims for the bolts to go through.

Ratio of the shims to your measured error is the same as the ratio of the measurement diameter to the bolt spacing.

Measured 0.17 mm error in 200 mm so if bolts are 100 mm apart you need 0.085 mm / 3.3 thou of shims.
