Adjuster mechanism

I need to make a simple adjuster to alter the distance between two parts using some Stainless M6 threaded rod. Both parts are alloy and I plan to fit a brass bush threaded M6 for the moving part to keep a smooth action. I’m not sure of the best way to retain the fixed end though? It will have a knurled knob on the end for easy rotation but I’m wondering how to retain the threaded rod whilst allowing free rotation. Adjustments will only be occasional so no real wear is expected. I was thinking of a simple horse shoe plate bearing on a groove in the adjuster but I’m not sure I have the space. Any ideas or better still links to diagrams or pictures? TIA.

Put a small bush in the ally plate to prevent the hole wearing and capture the rod end with locknuts and thrust washers. If you wanted to get really posh use 6mm ID thrust bearings and nylocks or locknuts.

A lot depends on if the moving part slides or hinges. If it hinges they you'll have to allow for the rod to swing a bit unless the range of movement is very small.

Thanks Pete, glad I asked as I hadn’t thought of lock nuts! The moving part slides and will be locked in place with a couple of bolts.
