I find a scriber (the ones with a scriber at either end, one at 90 degrees) comes in handy for placing small nuts on threads. Pick one up with the point, hold the tip against the thread, press your finger against the nut as you turn the bolt……or spin the nut with your finger onto a stud.
For picking things up, you can't beat one of those clawed pickup tools.
