Hi guys can anybody help me out with a problem of sticking piston rings on an IC engine when the engine has been left for a couple of weeks the rings appear to be stuck in the ring groves with what I would say is expended fuel from the last time it was run on ,the only way to get the engine running again is to remove the piston clean up the rings and groves any ideas on how to stop this happening would be great look forward to hearing from you out there

Hi Trev, if you are using a methanol/castor oil mixture it is probably the castor causing the rings to gum up in the piston grooves, always best to flush out any residue from the engine before laying it up.
If you use some kind of lay-up oil it will help prevent corrosion or gumming of the bearings.

What Emgee said. A better quick fix option is heat the engine with a hot air gun. That generally ungums the ring without dismantling and then flush some neat fuel through it.
