I have been given an unfinished steam engine – it is definitely a Simplex but the gauge is 3.5 inch. Do drawings exist for a 3.5 inch version of the Martin Evans Simplex? It is complete apart from a boiler and plate work. I have heard this version is called a Simplex Minor – is that true?

My next step is to find or make a boiler for it. But without drawings I do not know what boiler I need.

      All help appreciated. JR

Simplex Minor was serialised in Model Engineer starting with issue 4024.

Watch out for the dimensions there are errors. The one I remember in particular is a 0.5" difference between the cab and tank side length and the corresponding length on the frames.

This is very helpful – THANK YOU!

I was given a huge pile of magazines with the engine and I have just found the whole series for constructing Simplex Minor – issues 4024 to 4039. In the last article it says that drawings were available from a company called Plans Service in Hemel Hempstead but they don't seem to exist any more. I assume you made yours from the magazine articles so I will start with those. Thanks again!

Yes, the plans service has been though the hands of various publishers of ME but is now with Sarik Hobbies.

                  They advertise over here —————————>
