      Hi,

I have acquired the remains of a 2 1/2 inch gauge flying scotsman by bassett lowke. I am missing a set of coupled wheels and some link motion. Does anyone know of any spare parts or literature/plans available, as i would like to have a go at completing it.

I don’t know what detail is inside but this reprint from Tee publishing may be useful

As for the wheels if no spares available and I doubt there will be you could model them in CAD and get them 3D printed in steel. Or get one scanned and metal print that. Links would just be cut from solid.

Greenly Archive of a 2.5″ Flying Scotsman may also be useful if the booklet does not have drawings

          Hi Robin

Can I suggest you join the National 21/2″ gauge association or at least have a look at their website, very helpful and friendly, with a wealth of experience and they can supply castings and drawing reprints, may even have some original castings available. There are many of these unfinished about and parts do come up for sale regularly, quite a few members have finished very ancient part builds of these engines so advice would be available. someone is bound to have some parts to help you out, quite recently I gave a set of B/L Scotsman cylinder castings to an advertiser in the club newsletter who was in a similar position to yourself, parts are out there. Good luck with your project, for extra inspiration have a look at the excellent website of John Baguley, serial rebuilder of 21/2″ gauge engines, found the answers to many problems there.

John Baguley is an active member of Model Engineering Clearing House and you may be able to contact him directly through a posting or PM on that forum.

In addition, the forum member ‘charley’ was building a 2 1/2″ gauge B/Lowke Flying Scotsman so may have some useful insights.
