Previously, I bought all my pipe fittings (3/16-40 and 1/4-40), displacement lubricators and globe valves from PM Research in the US. I also bought some of their steam engine kits which ran very well. But that was some years ago. Recently I assembled an online order from them but when I asked for a postage quote they just gave a large estimate (table rate) which was well over and said that the difference will be refunded upon posting.  I have never heard of this method when buying online before and I thought it was a bit odd.

Watching a Youtube video last night, the English model engineer said that he buys a many of his pipe fittings from PM Research in the US so I am guessing that you do not have a UK manufacturer of such items ?

UK tends to use nuts and nipples (ferrules) so that is what the UK model engineering suppliers tend to sell. US engines tend to be plumbed with miniature versions of malleable iron fittings that screw onto the pipe which is what PMR sell.

It has been a while since I last ordered from PMR so can’t remember the postage costs but if they have your card number I’m sure they will just weight the total items and then arrive at what the international postage will be as they are more set up for flat rate postage across the US.

Try Forest Classics, they are the UK stockists for PM Research.

Brian is in Australia so probably cheaper to go direct, it is when buying from the uk hence why I buy from PMR direct rather than via Forrest.

              Ah, I didn’t realise that.
