I’m trying to take apart a Burnerd 3 Jaw, but I’m having trouble taking off the small plate behind the scroll. The spindle mounting backplate is already off.

I’ve taken the three small screws off, but there’s no obvious way of taking the plate out after that. Gentle tapping on the scroll hasn’t helped, presumably as the three activating pinions are in the way.

      Any pointers?

      Thanks.

A puff of air from the (never to be used) air nozzle? A wooden dowel from the other side and try to catch the edge of the plate maybe?

A side view of the chuck might assist, as there are several different designs.

Try warming the chuck body with a heat gun – doesn’t have to be too hot to hold – and then a sharp smack onto a piece of wood or carboard on your bench (rear of chuck downwards).

try tapping the edge of the chuck body with a copper/lead mallet and rotate, the reaction should eventually work.

                Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Some gentle heating of the body and a sharp smack onto a wooden surface did the trick – expansion of the body and softening of the very old grease both playing a part no doubt!

                Cheers,

                Youra.
