I have a Tom Senior Light vertical milling machine with the E type head. On the milling head there are two lubrication point that appear to be oil point with spring loaded balls.

1 point lubricates the spindle as it runs though a bronze bush.

2 The other point lubricates the two bearing that the spindle runs in. Do bearing need oil or grease to run correctly ?

They are oil buttons. For my E type head I use a 200ml Reilang oiler with a rigid spout to get some useful pressure and use the same oil I use on my Velocette Venon, Castrol XL 20-50 or Castrol Classic 20-50. I use that oil for the slideways too.

The top oiler is for the outside of the internally splined sleeve which allows the spindle and quill to move up and down while rotating. If you have bronze bushes there, they will need oil, but our version has needle roller bearings which just have some lithium grease. We never use the lower oiler because the taper rollers top and botton of the spindle are lubricated with lithium grease also, about one teaspoon worth at each end.  You can just see the top redundent oiler at the right hand end of the picture. which faces front, to oil the bronze bushes when fitted.
