I machined some of this the other day. I’ve not worked it before. The last time I machined commercially pure Titanium I had a couple of small fires on the lathe. This time it only happened once! 😆

I sometimes machine a bit of titanium if a special size is required as we have lots at the museum, but never enough to have a danger of fire. I have never had any trouble machining the stuff. When I was still working, a couple of apprentices had the job of bandsawing off lots of tooling lugs from titanium which was being processed on the cnc mills. They used the toolmakers Startrite saw and late in the day it caught fire from a build up of dust somewhere in the lower part of the bandsaw. The toolmakers put it out with c02, andthe smoke was white if I remember correctly. Magnesium fired were much more common, also requiring cO2.
