Hello,
I recently bought a new set of stainless steel (god knows what grade or composite) wax carving tools from the market. In the past I have found these to be very useful for all sorts of fiddly modelling tasks. However, the flatter thin tools are very ductile and can let me down for some of the meaner things I ask of them.
My question is, is there a way of tempering these so that I can harden them? What colour would I need to get them to and how would I go about the quenching?
Many thanks
