Did anyone watch the BBC2 program last night where Filton Colledge students developed a glider that flew for over 20 miles, and also some of the early shots which took me back to when I was a boy in the 50s. If any of you wiz kids can post the URL I would be grateful as would like to watch it again. They have come a long way since my balsa, paper and coating with dope (not the stuff that some people take today) but to shrink the paper over the frames.
        Really worth a watch

Loved the comments "picked up" by the onboard mike on landing.

Yes it brought back wonderful memories of building balsa wood gliders in the 60's, the smell of the glue and the dope, the hours spent cutting out the wood parts with a surgical knife, and the sheer pleasure when you got to fly it for the first time. You forgot the disasters when it crash landed and ruined hours of work, you just picked up the pieces and rebuilt it.

The laser cutter was a marvel to see, but for me part of the pleasure was cutting out these intricate parts and slowly building the whole plane. Perhaps we had more time on our hands in these days. Happy memories!

I was listening to people talking about it in the pub last night and the comments were very good.

Glad I managed to see the program.
