Perhaps someone can tell me what the Takang lathes were copied from
I think there were a number of names for the same machine
Paramount !. The model I have is a 101 bench lathe from 1975
which has a 2″ x 8TPI spindle. There are one or two parts that I
may replace and if it is a direct copy of an English or US
machine it may make life a bit easier.
      Thanks All
      Jim

I don’t know whether this will help, but a slightly devious search indicates that a Takung 101 appears to be the same as a Jet 1024T, and they look like nice lathes. Whether that helps identify what it’s based on I don’t know, but a google search using ‘Jet 1024T lathe’ comes up with rather more links and pictures than a Takung search does, so you could confirm that it’s at least superficially the same. Also there appear to be manuals freely available, which may help with identifying specific bits, but often with copied lathes, there are enough discrepancies for parts from the original design not to work comfortably at all. Of course with genuine clones it will be better.

I’ll be , it is the same as the 1024 Jet , apparently Jet no longer carries any parts
for it , I was mainly interested in a chuck backplate with the thread already
cut, not to worry just have to do it myself.
Thanks for the reply Steve , now if you can just post everything you know
            I won’t have to keep asking .
            Best wishes
            Jim.

Wish I could be more help, but the jet manual is particularly useless from the point of view of a faceplate specification – it doesn’t tell you what the thread is, or anything about the shoulder spec. What I was wondering about was the possibility of finding another faceplate with the same or very similar specification, but without these details, we’re all going to be a bit stuffed here…

Do you happen to know what the thread spec. is, or can you find out?

I’m probably being a bit greedy Steve , I have a 4″ on a backplate to suit this lathe and also the same for an 8″ , I just thought a good 6″ would be worth having hence the backplate. Never mind I’ll find out the thread and shoulder spec and take it from there.
I do have a manual ( copy) with the 2″ X 8TI on the spec page but even that might be a bit iffy , the Taiwanese to English translation is about what you would expect from 1975
Thanks for all your input Steve it is appreciated , with best wishes
                Jim
