Notification of New Posts to a Thread

When reading a post sometimes I would like to mark it so that I am notified if any new replies are made to the post. I have figured it out on other forums but this one seems to be a bit tricky

I also searched through this forum using “notify” “notification” and “reply” and got 2 hits, neither of which answered the question.

I see that there is a check box at the bottom of this post that I can check that will get me a notification if someone replies to this thread. It also says, (This will add the thread to your Bookmarks list).

Since each thread is different does this mean that if I subscribe to 50 different threads over a period of time that I am going to have 50 occurrences of Model Engineer in my list of bookmarks?

OK, Stop the presses. Backtrack. I found my answer. It was hiding way down at the bottom of the page way below the reply box hidden behind the plastic frame that goes around my monitor. This is what it looked like.

Bookmark this thread (you will receive email notifications whenever someone adds a reply)

So I clicked on it and now everything is OK for the present.

Next question? Why could I not edit my post above instead of starting a new post?

I have found that you can only edit your post if you remain logged into the site. Once you ‘logout’ the edit facility for any post created in that session is withdrawn. I suppose it has some advantage in that if somebody comments on a post re a mistake etc then one can’t go back and correct the post thereby making the point raised superfluous.

Is this feature the same on other forum sites?

On Most other forums that I am on I can go back a day, week, month later and edit my own post. I don’t have to remain logged into the site to retain that privilege.

I notice that others are commenting about editing as well so maybe there is a problem with the board.
