      @macmarch
I have never built a clock but I have a need for one. Its to hang on the kitchen wall and to be a reasonable working copy of an all steel (wrought) lantern clock.
I would prefer this to be a pendulum, weight driven verge escapement even though the time keeping will be iffy. Can anyone point me in the right direction to obtain a set of plans?
I do of course assume that what I want to build is workable even if not strictly according to the original style.

      cheers

          Hi Ray

There is a reference to a series of construction articles in Model Engineer :-

Striking Lantern Clock By J Malcolm Wild

          Series started 5th September 1975
“Reproduction 17th century brass frame weight driven short-bob pendulum clock that strikes on the hour. One hand to show time, with verge escapement. “

Alternatively for a wall mounted clock with a” lantern ” style you might look at John Wilding’s Castle clock. You can buy his book on the construction of this.

          Regards

            Hi again Ray

I’ve just found this link:- http://www.j-m-w.co.uk/otherprod.html

which is J Malcolm Wild’s site and contains details of various castings etc for his clock.

Who knows maybe he has construction details also?

            Regards

Thank you Norman, Is there someplace I can view/copy M.E. The archive doesn’t go back that far. Meanwhile I’ll have look at the site you show.

              cheers

                Hi Ray,

Many main libraries have taken ME for many years and have bound copies, My own local library’s ME archive goes back to the 1940’s.

                It’s worth a try.

                Regards
