A short cautionary tale on checking how big things are before you buy them

I was buying a bunch of stuff at an online auction and at the last second noticed an angle plate, it had no size or weight in the description but I decided to buy it anyway since it was going cheap. My thoughts were to mount if on the Centec table for when I want to use the horizontal spindle like a vertical one.

Heres what I got in the post compared with the Centec

Welded from 30mm plate with 400x300mm faces, almost weighs as much as the Centec

LOL, as they say. Still; you've got the possibility of mounting your Centec on the wall as a vertical milling machine. And it could have been even more amusing – you might have only had a Unimat 3…

My son once purchased some filters for his pond on e-bay

When we collected them they were 10 times the expected size and filled the back of a large van sticking out of the back doors !!!

A bit like my recent purchase of a 6" rotary table… a bit big for my X2, but at least it's usable with it!

Its going to turn out to be useful… Im just not sure when… Or how… (suggestions welcome)

Originally I thought I had a 4HP flexible shaft grinder so would have been a pallet anyway, then it turned out to have glitched the system and I was never told I was outbid :'( I needed a pallet anyway though so oh well

I bought an eight foot tall and wide 2 ton gantry crane from an EBay seller in Pershore. When I got there it turned out that they had meant to say 16 foot tall and wide.

With the aid of a loaned angle grinder I cut it down to pieces that could be stuffed between the rear doors of my short wheelbase tranny van and with ropes to hold it in and stop the doors flapping and the use of my (red) T shirt tied to the bits hanging 8 foot out of the back of the van, I carefully drove the 60 miles home.

At home I cut the bits down to what I needed, welded them back together and am still using it 15 years later .
