Workshop reconfiguration continues making way for my new project and these things turned up.

A strange pair of pliers, curved serrated jaws and a blob on one side. No idea what it is for…upholstery maybe, or is it a farriers hoof clincher! I am sure someone here will know.

Unbrako socket screw data chart, and a James Austin and Son of Dewsbury Double Sharp Weight calculator….a kind of slide rule affair for calculating the weight of steel sections in lbs per linear foot.

Free to good homes if anyone is interested.

I think the pliers are a cobbler's tool.

I agree they are called Lasting Pliers, don't know how they are used. Mike.                                                                     How they are used Here

Look like 'long lasting' pliers to me judging by their condition….laugh I'll get me coat….

Hope they find a new home..

Good find! I looked in vain in Salaman's Dictionary.

I might be wrong, but I always presumed that the pliers were designed for upholstery work, to grip the material and pivot them to stretch the material prior to tacking it to a solid frame.

Grandfather had a pair, used to play with them in the early 50s, he was a boot and shoe repairer as was his father.

My grandfather was a leather goods manufacturer, and there was a pair among his tools, can't remember if I still have them, or they are at a museum. I can remember that about 60 tears ago they had about 1" broken off the end of the top handle, and I had just seen my first demonstration of brazing at school, so I came home, fired up a blow lamp(other grandfather was a plumber), and made a new piece and Ezi-Flowed it on, last seen it was still holding up. Something about packing cases, not sure.

I have the pliers hammer thingy, looks exactly the same. Was my g/dads (who was a shoemaker among other things) and is now mine and in use.
