my 7yr is trying to design a workshop for if we have that win.

and as asked me to ask people what they have/do.

will list what he as so far from looking rd our shop and at model eng club we go to.

lots of space

lots of plugs and lights.

benches with storage

storage

2 lathes ( we have clarke and s-bend 9&quot (( 3 if you inlude the unimat sl.))

2 drill presses

1 drill press set up with tubing notcher.

milling machine.

tool cabinets ( roll cabs)

welders

kettle.

anyone like to add to his list?

building stand or bench if you intend to build large models, lots of shelving, space for wall charts, compressor, sheet metal rollers / folders (?).

These are what I regard as 'normal' in addition to the tools already mentioned
- Bench Grinder for sharpening tools
- Power bench mitre saw (so useful for timber work and cutting up waste pallet timbers for firewood)
- Stowage under benches for paints, wood preservers, building tools, slating tools, decorating tools, plumbing tools, hand held power tools such as angle grinder 4.5 & 9", hammer drill, sds drill, planer, sander, hot air gun, chainsaw, router, electric drill-driver and chargers. Stowage for small crucible aluminium melting furnace, moulding sand bin. Stowage for various sizes of blow torch. Stowage for aluminium castings not yet melted down. Stowage for aluminium ingots.
- Space on bench for large vice and small anvil.
- Aperture in bench to mount router on underside as a spindle moulder.
- Metal bandsaw.
- Space to hang most used hand tools on wall for easy access. Including crowbar, sledge & club hammer for pallet dismantling.
- Scroll saw
- Vacuum Cleaner
- Radio, fixed on Radio 4.
- Stowage for Ear defenders when Radio 4 is not broadcasting 'Woman's Hour'.
- Powdered milk, sugar and tea bags. (Don't have these, would like them!)
- Waste bin
- Decent lighting everywhere
In addition I have a few oddities:
- PC + CNC 6040 gantry router
- Thicknesser for making pallet planks the right thickness for the job.
- Shaper.
- Scales
- Small injection moulding machine for PVC or similar thermoplastics.
- Norton 6DB flypress
- CI surface plate on stand
- Stowage for spare car engine
I hope to add in the nearish future to the area outside the workshop under a lean-to:
- Blacksmiths forge
- Cupola iron melting furnace
- Full size anvil
I have most of the materials for the 'wish list' above.

Small Fridge for storing 'tinnies' in the summer.

Dehumidifier.

Extraction.

Intruder alarms.

CCTV (recorder remote from the workshop).

I have always thought a sink and running water would be a good luxury, but not necessarily inside the workshop itself.

First aid kit with sharp fine tweezers for getting swarf out of young fingers.

Jewellers eye-glass (loupe) to use with tweezers.

Signal system to know when tea is ready.

Copy of Machinery's Handbook (not necessarily current edition).

thanks for replies he as had great fun looking things up and deciding what we need.

even more so since big sister's boyfriend gave him an old laptop, he as now got folders with pics in.

now need to find couple of spare aircraft hangars and get 6 numbers up.
