I recently purchased what was described as a "Vintage" Dial Gauge, an ACE S1 Rustless, manufactured by Engineering Products Limited London. It looks almost new, very shiny (Nickle or Chrome plated perhaps). It's a "curio" in so far as it will be sitting on a base amongst the engines and other bits and pieces that have come out of the workshop.

Out of curiosity I will probably test it although I don't intend to use it. My problem is searching on the internet has produced no information on either the Dial Gauge or the manufacturer.

Can anyone provide any information about this piece of equipment?

Why a "curio" Barry? As far as I can see it's a pretty standard dial gauge – I have two similar although of different makes. Very useful ( essential?) when setting up work on machines – for example work in the 4 jaw chuck on the lathe.

Provided it isn't damaged, and it looks unused, or well looked after, use it, and be amazed at how much better it is than the modern ones!

A friend once proudly showed me the brass blow lamp he'd just bought from an antiques shop, polished and sat on his living room shelf. I didn't dare tell him you could still buy them new but much cheaper from the local hardware store….

Here is an S3 (looks to be a little larger dial than the S1) used when required to centre material in the 4jaw etc. It has worked perfectly for the last 35 years and will most likely see me out.
