Hello people, For some time now I've been trying to acquire plans for the:

      Holt 1916 / 1917 Caterpillar Tractor.

Strangely this is proving elusive. I have tried to get in touch with Bovington Tank Museum rather than just buy tickets but this dosen't turn out too easy either.

I don't wish to arrive there and be told, "you can't take photo's or dimensions without permission!"

Is there anyone out there who knows where I might get in touch with authority at Bovington or has the plans above.

Jesse, did I send you this link the other day when we were talking about the holt? If your Italian is upto it you could try contacting the guy to see where he got his drawings from, seems to be using them as a background in several of teh photos.

Also worth having a look at their other stuff if you have a few hours to waste.

The drawings in the background look like the 'Operator's Manual'.

              Scroll down here.

The Italian site says that construction was made more difficult due to the absence of drawings and information apart from a very few drawings.

His engine/motor came as a set of castings and drawings (engine only) from Coles Power in the USA. However he is extremely disparaging about the company.

              Regards,

              Phil.

John I'll give that a try and thanks.

Jason I'm sorry as I appear to have missed that but thanks for your perseverance. I know as much Latin as I do Italian but we'll see. I have less time than I did twenty years ago but I'm a sucker for good sites and models.

Phil, Yes I have been on that site and remember reading that a guy was not best pleased. I also tried to join Smokestack but for some reason their return link back to me enabling me to join didn't work.

The short of it is I'll possibly try getting the major engine parts cast here but that's another story. The rest of the machine is pretty agricultural so shouldn't pose too many problems. Imagine the postage on lumps of cast from the USA and the time it would take!!!!

                Again many thanks guys.

Castings from the US only take about a week-10days but you would be looking at around $125 postage on something the size of the Holt engine. I'm expecting a box today or monday.

Jesse, I have been to Bovington on a number of occasions taking pictures, taking measurements and making drawings I have also attached a steel tape measure with magnets, the staff have only inquired in a very friendly manner what I was doing had a chat and left me to get on with things I have also done this at Munster in Germany with no objections unfortunately the only thing they won’t let you do is climb on the tanks

I once contacted Bovington about some drawings which I was offered at a fair price, but i decided (for once) not to start another abortive project…

                        Hi Jesse,

I had a quick search of this vehicle on Google and started to look into available drawings etc. I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for but I found references on a US patent searchable database USPTO

Looking through the results of a patent search using "Holt" and "Track" as search terms I found the following linked PDF document complete with a sketch. Hope it's of some use wink

                        LINK

Edit: Oh well it looks like a different design. Maybe the correct one is on the patent website somewhere.

                        Regards,
Ed. This would make an interesting CAD model.

Neil: I know a bloke who knows a man who is in touch with a fellow who for a price will acquire it for you. If that helps.disgust > smile d >wink > devil

Ed : Great work mate and thanks very much. You are right that it's a 35H.P. model but there's a good sketch of the track design and that's a plus. I'm supposing that the tracks were pretty standard over the range with increases in proportion to the Tractor.

Jason: I sent off for one and consequently it has arrived. So thanks for that.

Haven't been on here for a while due to people digging through the internet cable! Don't you just love modern communications.

Now for that trip to Bovington.
