Been given a Nntool 6 inch band saw hardly ever been used, found the problem the arm that holds the adjusting bearings closest to the motor has snapped, it's cast iron so I'm going to try and weld it but if it's not successful I would like buy a new part but having trouble finding any where on the net, any one have any idea's where to get on from, bands saw spars shop would be nice.

      Regards Alan.

          Alan,

Suggest you contact Nutool direct. They are (were ) in Doncaster at DN6 7DU and are (were) on 01302 721791. Last time I contacted them some time ago they were very helpful.

          Hope this helps.

            Hi Alan,
I would suggest bronze welding rather than cast iron filler rods. I would grind a deep "V" along the crack first. (This is assuming that you plan to gas weld it.) You may also find that parts for the Clarke bandsaw are the same. You can download thew manual (Which contains a parts list.) for the Clarke bandsaw from here. You may be able to compare your broken part to a Clarke bandsaw on display at a Machinemart shop. I assume the broken part is what is described as the " Adjustable Bracket Right" (Item 30) in the Clarke manual.

            Les.

Trevor, last time I spoke to the very helpful man at NuTool he said they weren't keeping spares any longer. Alan, I would do as Les suggests, and go for a Clarke part from Machine Mart. They have more or less all spares. Phil – carriage retrurn not working yet!

Some of these saws, at least here in NZ have this part fabricated in steel, there are variations. IAN S C

If the cracked surfaces aren't contaminated with oil, you may be able to silver solder the join. It CAN be done

May be a before and after photo, so we can see what you have now, and after you have done the repair, we can see the result, it could be useful. Ian S C

Cast Iron can be succesfully welded with MMA (often referred to as stick or arc welding) using Nickel rods. Pre-heating the part and slow cooling provides a stronger weld that from cold. As said, a deep vee into the part first and absolute cleanliness is essential for a strng repair, I've done a few parts with good results.

I have the same saw with the same broken bracket.

It's a bad design and the leverage is far to great for a casting, not repaired mine yet, it's only a backup machine, but when I do it will be a new bracket in steel and possibly a re-design.

Counting mine and this post I now know of 5 that have broken.

BTW if the Nutool at Doncaster you mention was at the side of the A1 in a very large building they are long gone from there. pass it every 3 weeks or so, can't remember who's in there now,

Hi chaps the problem part has been welded, I had only just read all the reply's so can't show you any pics of the before and after, it cracked straight across where the bolt goes through to hold it on, my mate did it yesterday whale i was cutting up some trees we had dropped and i didn't see him do it, the part is on the saw this morning and is working perfectly now cutting thin slivers of a piece of inch round it's within 2 thou of being square really pleased with it. Robonthemoor did it so may be he will tell you how he did it if he reads this, only thing I can tell you is he used a mig welder.

                            Regards Alan.

                              Hi All,
Not quite on the topic of this thread. This is a simple tool I made to make it easier to align the blade square to the bottom of the vice. It makes it easier to see if the blade is square by placing the set square against the tool rather than just up against the blade.
