      Hello,

I'm experiencing a problem with runout on a Myford lever action collet chuck which I have borrowed from a friend.

I recently replaced both the ball bearings and the spindle bearing on the headstock of my Myford Super 7 and now only have a mere flicker of runout on my DTI on the spindle. However, after fitting the collet chuck and using several different sizes of silver steel I find that I have a 0.011" runout. I have checked the silver steel in a chuck and have recorded a 0.001" runout. Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem.

      Regards

      Tom

          Tom,

I had a similar problem after fitting new ball bearings to my S7. Just go through the mandrel setup procedure again. It is just that the bearings are settling down after being fitted. You may have to do it a couple of times but I can assure you the problem will be resolved.
