Pratt 5″ 3 jaw chuck

Hi,

I have here a Pratt 3 jaw self centering lathe chuck, 5" (approx 125mm) diameter.

It is in good condition, but one of the jaws has two broken teeth. I would like to use it on my Myford lathe, but would this cause a vibration? What chance is there of finding a replacement set? They are stamped with the numbers 249.

When did Pratt become Pratt- Bernerd?

It would be a shame to scrap it as it is fitted with the Myford backplate and the scroll and other moving parts are in very good condition.

I also have here a fixed steady and catchplate. They have numbers in the castings, 74/1137 catchplate and 73/1904 steady. Are these original Myford products?

1137 is certainly a Myford number for the catchplate. 74/ does not appear anywhere on the listings I have. 73/1904 does not tie up in any way with the stedies, again with the lists I have.

Try Ian at Rotagrip, they are Pratt chuck specialists. http://www.rotagriponline.com for a start on Monday.

Good advice – I have found Rotagrip excellent at sourcing chuck jaws, and from a much wider range of chucks than that. You might find the price surprising though.

BTW, for anyone who wnats to search, the correct name of the maker is Pratt Burnerd; see **LINK**
