      Hello everyone,

I wonder if anyone out there can help me identify some locomotive wheel castings that I was given many years ago. I always assumed that they were for a 3 1/2" gauge Duchess – but they are nothing like an LMS wheel design in that there is no chamfer on the rim casting. The driver castings are 21 spoke and 5 1/8" over un-machined tread. There is a casting number on the rear that is: X202 and X203 for the larger balance weight center driver. The bogie wheels are casting No. ST262 (10 spoke 2 3/8th tread) and the tender wheels are casting No. X213 (12 spoke 3 1/4" over tread). There are also a pair of 12 spoke 3" over tread wheels that could possibly be the trailing wheels of a Pacific type loco. I hope someone may recognise the casting numbers and be able to help!

      Many thanks in advance!

      Malc.

I think Reeves use that style to number their castings, you might give them a call.

Thanks for that Neil, I did ring them as my first port of call this morning, but unfortunately the lady on the phone was less than helpful! I've been through their loco list but can't find anything close.

The driving and tender wheels match LBSC's Maisie in my Blackgates catalogue.

              Rod

Edit:  Bogey wheels look right as well http://www.glrkennions.co.uk/model-engineering-steam-locomotive-maisie.html

Thanks for that Roderick – I see what you mean. I phoned them today and the very helpful lady didn't recognise the casting numbers – but they could have changed I suppose. It's odd though that I have 9 driving wheel castings for the project – a lot of spares for an Atlantic!!

                Many thanks for your help,

                Malc.

Do we remember everything we read , or what ?

Your wheel castings were produced by Stuart Models , the exact numbers of the castings, sizes and spokes

are detailed in their 1980 catalogue.

However, no mention is made of for what class of locomotive they are suitable .

Proof enough memories not going, or of a sad life ?

Brilliant job JH!! Just shows that even the most mundane and seemingly useless memories are always worth hanging on to! Many thanks for the great detective work

                        .

                        Could be a 4-9-2 layout ?

Maybe they are for a set of three Listowel and Ballybunion Railway locomotives?
