      hi will brass work as a slide valve material just i have a big block of brass that i can use the cylinder is cast iron so will brass work at the mo i cant afford to get any differant material so would rather use what i have??????

      also were would engineering plastics come in to use could you use somthing like acytel or delrin…………… this is just a courious question

      the model is only going have minimal use

          For light use Brass will be OK though a bronze would be better. You could always silver solder a thin piece of bronze onto a brass block, if you cut a hole in teh bronze first then that will form the cavity in the valve.

            hi..if your not planning on powering the national grid with it brass will be just fine, in my experience avoid plastics, they do bad things when they get hot!!

              With a cast iron cylinder, steel could be used, but cast iron is better. Stuart Turner use bronze on engines like the S 9, and I presume their other engines too. Ian S C

                Ian…totally agree that brass isnt perfect but it will last plenty long enough as a d-valve
