Neil – was having significant problems in that I lost the connection about every 5 minutes – used a machine separate from my usual machines that worked fine for a private zoom meeting a few weeks ago but it was a fairly up to date (updated about a month ago) Firefox on Mint 19.3 – because it is not my usual machine I had set no restrictions so running the standard Firefox – I set it up about 6pm to check out but even then after about 5mins I got the postapp zoom page so for some reason even without the meeting starting it was switching out – possibly the machine was too old – a Lenovo X300i with an intel i3 which seems fairly potent for other tasks and there were no other heavy tasks running on my LAN – the video + audio was fine when connected

Great to be able to put faces to names.

Well done Neil, for setting this up.

I will make sure I dont end up baby sitting 3 grandchildren under 6 next time and take a more active part at the next meeting!

        Regards to all

Although I started with doubts and intended just to listern I thoroughly enjoyed the meeting. I thought it was a great success and look forward to the next one.

Having an advertised topic may be an idea but it must not be too specialised for fear of a small attendence: Perhaps, from Hillclimber's posting, "Keeping the workshop active in times of difficulty".

Neil, many thanks for organising an excellent meeting.

Thaks for the zoom meeting. I got shown by my eMail which is tubal as the Lab issued me with a licenced account so I didn't get to specify a more freindly user name. Ithought it worked well for a first meeting. Definitely needs some structure as we go on. My suggestions would be Intro's of new members, mystery objects, show and tell and as Neil suggested a short presentation. some of this to be planned in advance and some spontaneous. Definitely has potential. Sort of instant virtual Model Engineering Club.

            best regards Martin

Incidentally, I am a fan of Tom Walshaw but Tubal Cain was a biblical metal worker which is I'm sure where he got the tag from. I just used it as a way of anonymising my eMail address in a way they was meaningfull. He also had a brother Jubal as in Jubilation who was a musician.

His lesser known cousin was a snooker player, Cubal.

I enjoyed listening in, sorted out the video on my phone and then the battery died!

Thanks again for sorting this Neil.

I have a club member with a laptop 'eleven years old' which does manage email looked after by his wife. It does have a camera and speaker but mocrophone died (or might just be turned off). What chance this would work with zoom? How locked in is zoom to very modern OS and hardware?

My wife's laptop is older and she uses it for Zoom. Dell Inspiron 1520. 2006 model. Give it ago and see how it performs. I installed Zoom on an old PC with Vista installed and it worked ok if a little clunky.
