      Hi

I photographed an object, mostly a pieced circle laminar, 25mm dia.

Used KolorPaint to tidy up the picture and saved it as BMP.

Used an online BMP 2 STL.

Then loaded the stl into TinkerCAD, looks perfect from the Top, but from the back it has spread. I can extrude the stl object in TinkerCAD and it keeps the Top and Bottom surfaces to form a truncated cone (I remember that was called Frustrum).

Now I just want to slice off and keep 1.5mm of the Top, throwing away what is below.

Anyone know how and is prepared to share?

      Thanks

      George

Is this just to print it or to build it into some other CAD object?
Remember you can sink an STL into the bedplate in the slicer to get rid of the bottom part. There might still be a bit of taper though but making the extrude long might reduce that to acceptable levels.
I’m not very familiar with Tinkercad but  another possibility is  to duplicate the object, mirror and invert it, position it above the first and have it join the two surfaces (can’t remember the name of that function), then delete the top and bottom tapered bits.

          Hi

I didnt know you could do that with the slice, my printing is done for me by a mate.  I will enquire

Even though you don’t do the printing yourself it might be worth getting a free slicer (the one your mate uses) to see how they work. It can show you the internal fill pattern and how supports work.

              Bazyle,

Can you recommend a slicer program please?

              Thanks

                Hi

my mate is commercial and uses something called either Mango or Lychee slicer, I remember it’s an exotic fruit.

Don’t know tinkercad but if I only want to use part of an item I simply sketch a rectangle and then cut  extrude in Alibre or F360. This removes everything that teh rectangle was drawn over. Usually do it to produce top and bottom pattern halves. Then use “save as” so the original is not lost

You can see the red rectangle here which has cut away the bottom half of the flywheel to leave a hanf pattern

Slicers include Flashforge, Cura, Prusa, Lychee. all free. Simply3D is not free I think.

Tinkercad is much cruder as it is aimed at children. Deleting is done by creating an empty box, moving it into place, and doing a combination. The Website is full of little 3 step tutorials for each operation.
