Can anyone point me in the right direction to determine the correct size round belt(s) to use to transmit power from a fractional 1450rpm electric motor.

          Brian,

Just as a practical starting point:

My BCA uses 5/16" [8mm] belt … as does a recently acquired lapping machine

So that seems a reasonable starting-point for 1/6 to 1/2 HP

Whether it's correct is another matter, but I used 8mm to replace the old V belt on a bench drill and it worked and lasted well – quieter too.

I'm trying to get a George Taylor mill working that had all the original flat belt pulleys removed. A wet finger in the air says a 1450 rpm 1/2hp motor should be enough grunt . . . .but what rpm for the spindle? I've got a four step pulley that looks like it came off a S7 as a starting point.

                .

Look at the red 'Dymo' label on this page

                  Thanks. A good starting point.

Can someone please advise me how to contact the MEX stall holder who did round green polyurehane drive belt? TIA.

Could well be BB Engineering Supplies, who attend most shows, but I don't go to MEX so can't be definite, They sell a range of sizes of PU belting (the green stuff).
