first post so hello everyone correct speed for alba 1a as given by A W Judge engineering workshop practice stated as being 28 spm low 50spm fastest . this worked for me and its still going ok 5yrs on turned poly v pulley to suit motor shaft. dia of small side 1inch large side 1.5 inch . then used old car fan belt cut to length so it fills in the V on the big driven pulley on the machine cut it so as to leave a gap 2 mm ish drill the ends of the belt 1mm drill 5mm ish in from end then make clip from piano wire or stainless steel welding wire thread wire through holes so the two end facing out place on pulley clinch wire ends together twist ends together with pliers if using s/s wire bend twisted bit in direction of rotation and bed down in to top of old v belt using punch and hammer be gentle with the hammer or may have to have another go do same with the next not quite so big one . obtain poly v belt to suit 4 ribs is fine makes for much nicer machine ! would just like to add the reference to a w judge is given cos that is where i found the info on the correct speed, just in case one wonders where i got said info from . forgot to say the above is for 1428 rpm motor and 1/2 horse is plenty more than enough. got a few more shaper mods & wrinkles to part with but am thinking this speed mod will be one most wanted by those who have a shaper probably take longer to get belt than do the mod Bodge
