dsc09960 small.jpgThe photo says it all – the eagle eyed amongst you will notice that the 45 tooth XL pulley wheel actually has 62 teeth thus requiring that slightly less commonly available belt using 0.145" or 3.68mm pitch.

Furthermore (and not one that I can really blame on CNC) the cutter centre height is out by about 6mm, brain was firmly engaged whilst setting X and Y at zero but setting Z was abandoned after an approximation – for no better reason than I suffered pure brain fade at that point.

The tooth error was caused by failing to save the file that I created from an earlier one – I guess the manual equivalent would be to write the wrong number down for moving the rotary table.

      Solution:

Reduce the diameter of the blank down to the point where 43 teeth fit (the absolute ratio is not important) and recut for 43 teeth making sure that everything looks right first before cutting!

          A good Save, Simon

… But I think I would have chosen 42, in tribute to Douglas Adams.

            Michael,

In this case 42 was not the answer to everything since it would have resulted in an even more exotic pulley of 43 overlying 62 teeth……
