Original type paint wanted for Meddings Driltrue pillar drill

I want to paint paint my recently acquired 1979 Meddings Driltrue pillar drill, the original paint looks like Hammerite but Hammerite don't sell this shade of blue now, see pic.

Does anyone know of a source of this paint or one like it ?

I have used machinery enamel from a firm called Teamac which is very good.
They have a website and I think there is a colour chart on there. If not I have a chart we can find a match from.
You can spray or brush it and it thins with white spirit so no need for special thinners.

I faced the same problem when repainting parts of my Viceroy lathe a couple of years ago. The light blue shade of Hammerite had not been on the palette for decades.

I found this substitute on Ebay ( I can't do links, photos etc.) Try searching for "blue hammer finish metal paint" in the "Home furniture & DIY" section. The product should show up being sold by mdabitec.

I can't vouch for the product as, during my searching, one of those suggestion adverts revealed a dealer selling off small tins of original light blue Hammerite destined for the German market. I knew.it had to be old but took a gamble as it was cheaper than a 1 litre tin and would definately be the right shade. as I had no intention of repainting the whole lathe. My gamble paid off .

Try **LINK** I have some hammer paint that I bought from them when they were Crosbie Coatings Ltd many years ago. I looks to be almost identical to your picture. Whether they still do hammer finish paint I am not sure but an email will soon confirm it. I think back then they only sold it in 5, 25 or 200litre drums. 

Called  Flanders Blue.  part number 630-009

I still have 2 x 5ltr cans. I will do some colour swatches and add to my album.

It's not the same formulation any more.

It would be good to know how well the new version works.

Strange how we value it as a traditional finish for British Made Tools, given that its purpose is to pretty up poorly finished surfaces

Can dated 2009. Just opened it and as good as new inside.

Many thanks for all the replies, you've come up trumps, I will buy one of the suggested paints now.

I didn't want to repaint the whole drill but touch up parts to improve it's overall look.

I have added a split pin through the depth gauge threaded rod at the maximum travel point of 3 3/4" as if the nuts are inadvertently wound higher the teeth on the "Activating gear & shaft" gear can become damaged when they run out of teeth on the quill.

I know this as I had to file one of the gear teeth back into shape on my drill.
