      Hi Everybody,

I want to remove the drive shafts that pass through the apron, the lead screw and the feed drive shaft. They are all released at each end and seem to just slide out. My concern is that if I pull them out something will go clunk inside the apron causing major work. Any advise much appreciated.

Looking at the parts book I'm pretty certain that the drive worm and key will drop out of position when you pull the feed shaft.

Might be possible to ferret things back into place if you remove the bottom plate from the apron if you start with the keyway in the shaft at the bottom.

Best to follow the procedures and pull the whole apron off so you can see whats inside. Apart from the sheer awkwardness of dealing with the lump with screws sticking out its usually relatively easy that way whatever the machine.

            Go into back garden.

            Cut stick from hedge.

Whittle it down until it is the same diameter as the shaft you are removing.

Insert from opposite end to which you are removing shaft.

Thanks for that. This job is going on as we speak so thanks for your quick replies. The lead screw slid out easily. Looking inside there was no displacement of the nut halves and they moved correctly with the control handle. Suspect the worm drive will displace so like the idea of chasing the shaft through with a dummy. Going to give it a go now and report back later. Just wondering what best to use, pine, oak or firsmiley.

Well, the job is now done. As it's pouring down outside decided to give the garden a miss, pull the shaft and deal with any fall out. There where none! The shaft slides down a continuous tube with a fixed key. Shaft out, shaft in, no problem at all. The problem we all face is having parts diagrams (that need forensic examination) and no decent service instructions. Hope this helps any Harrison owners.

                Regards to all
