Anyone have practical experiance of the distance required between parallel tracks running in opposite directions.

Will need to be more than scale due to passanger trolley widths.

From a safety point of view they probably need to be far enough apart so passing passengers can't touch with outstretched arms. Your probably looking at a minimum distance of six feet.

That sounds a good startin point will have a set out with some string.

            Thanks

              Hi Steve,

I was going be clever and say "the clue's in the 7 1/4" bit" but I see it's a serious question!

I'm sure I've seen them closer than 6'.

The above 6’would assume sane (non suicidal) passengers….was going to say this gap only needed at passing points…but am sure you know that…hse might not..

                  Steve,

The HSE did publish a guide a few years ago and the recommended minimum distance between tracks used for public passenger carrying is stated as 2m, although from memory it's not clear whether that's between running edges or centres.

I know of one railway that has it's tracks closer than 2m and they close one line if they are passenger hauling.

Makes you wonder why they had two tracks.

Because they built it before the HSE put in their two penneth.
