Hello. I am hoping one of you knowledgeable chaps can help me with my mk2 square head Colchester student lathe.

The issue is with setting the gearbox for thread feed rate. The lever that controls the E and F ratio doesn't seem to engage. I think it is stuck at the E setting. I can rotate it the near approx 320deg towards F but it seems to meet resistance just before engaging F. Is anyone familiar with this issue or can shed light on what I should look for?

Its a machine very dear to my heart as it was inherited from my late father so i am keen to get it in full working order.

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

      Ben

You may be doing this already, if so sorry for suggesting it. Rotate the gears by hand as you try to select the gears. Try turning the chuck with one hand when selecting gears with the other.

Hi Martin. Don't be sorry at all. I welcome any suggestions. I'm an amateur machinist so no idea what i'm doing half the time. But yes, have tried that with no luck unfortunately.

Little update. All fixed. The leadscrew gear had been chewed up by a dissengaged sliding brushing. Found a replacement gear and now working perfectly
