Any thoughts/comments on this? Am looking for something to initially make my own levers/parts for motorcycle before expanding my horizons. Space is a little tight so thought this might save some, however don't want to compromise quality.

          Hi Curtis,

A similar topic has been discussed before, have you read these:

I own a 290 lathe for a few years, it has a 3-phase motor run from an inverter. I have had no problems so far. I don't have the milling head that mounts on the rear, but a separate bench mounted milling machine.

              Curtis,

I have the Warco 290 and am mostly happy with it. One of the reasons I chose it over one of the 12×32 types was the milling head, which I planned to buy at some point as an upgrade to my Sieg X2, This was especially attractive as the Warco version has a DRO which would have then also worked for the milling head, also free power feed in both x and y.

In the end, after getting used to the lathe and going to the Warco showroom for a close look at the milling head, I decided not to:

              1. No cross slide lock on the lathe, not a problem for turning, more of a problem for milling

              2. There is not all that much longitudinal travel for milling due to where the head is in relation to the lathe headstock. I can't remember exactly how much, but I was disappointed when I measured it

              3. I had hoped it would be possible to leave a small milling vice on the cross slide most of the time, but I couldn't see a way of doing it without getting in the way, and moving the vice every time you need to change operations would be a pain

If you absolutely don't have room for separate machines, then it might be worth it, but otherwise I wouldn't. Also worth noting that if I had known I wouldn't end up getting the mill head, I likely would have got the 1236 instead for the lathe part.

              HTH,

              Dan
