Making a lamp with a difference, from scrap.

Start with a length of chrome plated brass tube removed from a very expensive free standing bath tap. As the thread title suggests, a scrap one, and set it up on the mill using my little home made indexing unit. I have a Vertex dividing head, but that was too big to use for this job. More to follow.

Next step is to mill some slots in the tube.

Take some scrap 'Perspex'. My mate owns the local scrapyard, and they get some great stuff in there at times.

Mark out and cut some discs to roughly the right size on the bandsaw.

Next, do a bit of pressure turning. I held the discs together with double sided tape and wedged them in the lathe using a rotating chuck in the tailstock.

Drill the discs for the LEDs and tap out a hole for a fixing screw.

Then fit the LEDs into the discs.

Time to cut the base from 3/4" 'Perspex' and cut the holes for LED driver, switches Etc.

With the base ready it's time to make some bits for the top. 3/4" 'Perspex' and some discs from hard drives.

Put them all together and you have a lamp that can have either white discs or colour changing discs. The base and top are white at all times, only the discs change colour. I would post a Video of the finished item but don't know how.

That looks fantastic, a similar design with the disc on the column slightly further apart would make a great display stand for small items.
