Britain and Europe were once connected by a boggy low lying area about the size of Wales called Doggerland. The Thames joined the Rhine there on it's way to the sea. Theory is, Doggerland was gradually submerged by rising sea-levels until the Storegga Slide finished the job about 6000 years ago by gouging out the English Channel with a tsunami. In 1607 significant damage was done in the Bristol Channel by either a tsunami caused by an underwater earthquake off Ireland, or a storm surge. I hear big money has been spent on the sea-wall protecting Hinckley C!

What's under the Azores is a risk to the entire Eastern seaboard of the USA. Scary stuff!
