Just noticed that our bottle of antiseptic hand wash is made in China – is it safe to use it ???

It's much safer to use a blow lamp.

My understanding of these hand washes is that bugs are killed by alcohol which is their main feature. So just stick your hands in your lager (not fit for anything else anyway) but obviously Devon Cider should not be wasted in this way.

A "man from the ministry" said on TV today that common soap and water is more effective than bottles of hand wash.

Alcohol based disinfectant is effective against bacteria. It is not very effective on virus (what the hell is the plural of virus) because of insuffient concentration and time of contact. I agree that hand washing is he most effective.

On my last cruise there were hand washing stations at all the entrances to the buffet. They had a minor outbreak of norovirus during the cruise. Hand washing was mandatory for entering the buffet in addition there was hand sanitizer. The crew was doing extra scrubbing, cleaning, and disinfecting in all the food service areas. Passengers were no longer permitted to self serve from the buffet. Crew members prepared the plates and handed them across the counter. That was done to prevent passenger to passenger transmission of the virus via the buffet line.

Soap and water for a count of 10, rinse and dry using disposable paper towel.

It is said that face masks are not safe, use once and dispose even if you can get them.

Social distancing, no kissing nor touching hands to face and nose, cheek kissing is off ! (watching people, they pick up and then rub their hand over their face and nose)

Shopping trollies and baskets. Touched by all. The Dettol surface wipes are handy for that. It seems people are more wary now. Symptons start basically with a sore throat and headache, fever and ennui. Older people with deblitating illness already, stay isolated. Further to this it is worth getting a Pnuemonia jab, £70 at Boots. Preven 13 is good.

I self-isolated myself from the Wife yesterday afternoon – down the Shed. I wore a face mask and ear protectors just in case she came down there – and managed a bit of table sawing in the process which was a bit dusty… wink

I heard that face masks can be good in preventing you touching your mouth or nose inadvertently with your hands which may be contaminated.

I'm now advising everyone to disinfect their mobile phones every day by boiling for 20 mins. They'll be prefectly alright if you put a few grains of rice in the saucepan…

If you want to kiss your friends then I suggest a polythene bag over your head first..

If you do get sick then make the most of it. I intend to cough either in the direction of Brussels or the House of Lords.

Since I'm in the demographic with a 20% chance of croaking I'll be rinsing my lungs with Jeys fluid twice a day.

If you have any need to go shopping them wear a full gas mask and walk along with an air sanitiser can spraying in front of you. Shopping centres love folk who do that..

Before I retired I worked in an indusrtry where face masks were mandatory, I had to do a face fit test regularly when visiting different customers to make sure that my nose and mouth were sealed completely. The test involved wearing a air hood and an amount of foul tasting spray sent into the hood, you were then given a face mask to wear and the hood was put back on and the spray injected in, if you couldnt taste it all was well if you could another mask was tried.

The masks you see people wearing in the streets in the news are totally useless.

An excellent opportunity to avoid the hugging and air kissing that seems to have invaded us. I avoid this if at all possible with anyone other than my wife. A handshake is more than adequate, a proper one not a fist pump or high five (or a high six for those from Swindon or Norfolk).

I used to carry out face fit tests for clients, the substance is called 'Bitrex' and despite using disposable gloves when filling and using the vapourisers it got everywhere, and it does taste awful! On the plus side it did highlight how many times I touched my face, such as wiping my mouth then licking my lips ugh!! Easy to appreciate how germs spread after using that stuff.

The paper or fibre face masks are not entirely useless because they can contain a cough thereby reducing the spread of infection, and you can scratch your nose with a mask on.

I don't understand what all the media/public fuss is all about. NO deaths from corona virus in uk yet, but what about the deaths from flu in the uk since christmas. If people new there would be less panic.

ordinary flu kills hundreds of thousands in the world every year, yet there is no panic, it seems to be accepted that flu related deaths are unavoidable, and it is the result of pnuemonia that gets most people due to other health and age issues. This is why we have the seasonal flu jab, to try and cut down the number of deaths/complications arising from such.

no need to panic, just use common sense – oh! dear…. Huston we have a problem!!!!!!!!

Masks are relatively useless. Chances of you standing in front of a carrier as they cough or sneeze and you breathing in droplets are lower than your chance of winning the lottery. Its those droplets landing and sitting on surfaces that you then touch that is the problem. Hand washing is the best defence.
